Have you all seen that Volkswagen commercial they've been airing during NBC's Olympic coverage? You know, the one with the plaintive guitar and stark, remote vocals? That's Richard Buckner, singing "Ariel Ramirez." I nearly fell off the ol' chesterfield when I heard him comin' through the speakers of my idiot box.

Richard Buckner is one of my all-time favorite song writers, and he should be a millionaire. Problem is, he'd probably scare the bejesus out of the TRL crowd, and well, he doesn't shake his rump or lip-sync in concert. As a result, he's been forced to hone his craft in near-obscurity. But man, such mighty talent. Have you ever medicated a broken heart with too much Maker's Mark Bourbon? If so, Richard Buckner sings for you. If you want him to sing for you in person, you can catch him on tour this fall with the also-amazing Damien Jurado.

And don't anyone dare say that he's sold out. I'm 100% certain that you make more money than he does.

Does anyone know of a free website that archives commercials? I want to watch this one again.

I think he's sold out.
