Have y'all noticed the electoral vote counter down the left side of this page? It links to a very useful site wherein polls from around the country are tabulated, distilled, and then projected onto a color coded map of these United States. I have to admit that I've become somewhat attached to this site and I check it several times a day to see if there's been any changes in what is shaping up to be a dire fall for people concerned about the future of this country. Currently, Bush has quite a large lead in the electoral vote tally, but the totals are in a constant state of flux. Last week Kerry had a pretty dramatic lead, which seems to have fizzled off this week. It will return. I promise.
That's it. I'm staking what little reputation I have on the line here. John Kerry will win this election. I know things look a little dire right now, but I have a feeling that the polls are simply mistaken (I mean, how on earth can New Jersey be in the red column? That has to be a mistake). Think about it: Kerry is pretty much guaranteed to take the votes of all the people who supported Gore last time around, right? I haven't heard of any respectable, sane Democrats who have switched sides this election (notice how I said "respectable" and "sane." Zell Miller is neither). Add to that total most of the former Nader raiders (myself included), and the total of Republicans who have become disillusioned with Bush's tarnishing of the honourable political term "Conservative," and you've got a large majority of voters for Kerry. Plus, Kerry has a history of coming through at the very end of his campaigns.
To my friends who teach in Ohio -- you have one task this fall: Get out the fratboy vote. The latest Rasmussen poll puts Bush and Kerry within 1% of eachother there. A few properly indoctrinated fratboys could push Ohio into the blue column. Abandon all pretense of an objective learning environment! Show your liberal bias! David Horowitz be damned!
Speaking of David Horowitz, did y'all know he just published an "Anti-Chomsky Reader"? In terms of intellectual acumen and scholarly sophistication, this is a true case of David v. Goliath, except in this case Goliath is a benevolent and articulate intellectual, and David is, well, David Horowitz. Guh.
Anyways, I should get back to memorizing the Greek alphabet.
Good night, and gabba hey.
