Who needs that "special someone" on Valentine's Day when The Drive-By Truckers decide to make a song from their upcoming album available online for free? The song, called "Feb. 14" can be downloaded here. It's a great tune - very Paul Westerbergy in its raspy earnestness, but it still has that characteristic Patterson Hood bitterness. Brilliant.

Beats a box of chocolates any day.

After hearing you talk about them so much, I grabbed a few of their songs from the five-and-dime (err...Limewire). Maybe not quite my flavor enough to be in regular rotation on the ol' iPod, but a good listen nonetheless. Unfortunately, I think all the songs were lost in the great Accidental Deletion and Failure to Backup the Downloaded Music Folder incident of '05.

Being that I have never recieved a Valentine, a box of chocolate would be a major step forward for me. Then again your good old fashioned stalker would be a positive step forward for me as well. At least I can crack jokes about having an admirer as I nervously look over my shoulder to make sure I am not being followed.

I really hate this day. It really knows how to stick it to you that you are alone and unloved. I need one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer to get me through this day. Screw the chocolate.
